We’re proud to be experts in environmental, economic, and social sustainability, with more than 20 years’ experience to prove it. Our team has overseen projects that include adaptive reuse of outdated buildings, energy conservation, historic preservation, transit-oriented design, and green construction practices.
We believe that creating opportunities for people, nature, and economies to flourish is the responsible thing to do. We ask ourselves how our developments will impact the environment; what existing structures can be rehabilitated to preserve the character of a place; and what new technologies can be used to increase energy efficiency. For years, our team has searched for answers to these kinds of questions, resulting in a history of highly successful, sustainable developments.
Our approach to sustainable development.
Repurposing existing sites helps us to conserve land and creatively meet the needs of growing populations. We redeveloped a bank into a mixed-use community at a busy San Francisco intersection to maximize utility and repurposed an old mill located on precious waterfront land into a residential community.
Sustainability extends from design and construction to the ongoing operations of our buildings. Constructing efficient buildings is cost effective in both the short and long-term. Our buildings are built with energy-saving features and amenities that lower utility costs and long-term maintenance.
We restore and preserve landmark buildings that are representative of important architectural or cultural periods. Examples include 9th Avenue Terminal at Brooklyn Basin, a site that is being repurposed for a new generation, and the Hive, where local businesses are thriving on the site of former auto-related facilities.
Accessibility to public transportation is key to reducing environmental impact and enhancing livability for residents. We look for sites and design communities with a keen awareness for how people will interact with transportation, from increasing walkability to decreasing needs for parking.
We obtain LEED, Build it Green, and Green Point Rated certifications on many of our new developments like the Hive, which combines a variety of commercial and residential uses into a new square block of activity that will receive a LEED for Neighborhood Development certification.
Our team of experts and consultants found a solution to completing construction for the stalled development, and translated that finding into something our policy makers could understand and embrace.MORE ON ORINDA OAKS

Because we have the ability to create many different kinds of developments, our projects are uniquely tailored to their communities, from master-plans and single family residential to mixed-use projects and urban infill.
