Overview

With some of the world’s most influential technology companies headquartered in the South Bay, access to transportation is key. The City of Sunnyvale is located in the heart of Silicon Valley, 30 miles south of San Francisco and bordered by Santa Clara and Mountain View. A transit-oriented, residential project, Fair Oaks Transit Village incorporates small homes and condominiums within walking distance to the Sunnyvale Caltrain Station.

Old Industrial to New Residential

Before SDG repurposed Fair Oaks Transit Village the ground needed to be thoroughly cleaned. What used to be a semiconductor facility is now an environmentally sustainable residential community.

Solutions

SDG worked in cooperation with the City of Sunnyvale and local coalitions to create a plan that would serve the community. We laid the foundation for a residential building proximal to the Light Rail Station and then sold the site to a home-builder. A diversity of smaller floor plans serve the needs of young technology professionals with a variety of incomes. The development is now being built to plan and will be completed by next year.

Sustainability

Walk to Caltrain

A transportation-oriented, residential design, Fair Oaks Transit Village offers easy access to work, recreation and urban amenities. Walkable environments encourage the use of public transportation, decrease traffic congestion, and help to reduce carbon emissions.

Impact

Fair Oaks Transit Village includes 47 homes in a variety of floor plans to meet the needs of the local professional market who are primarily young technology workers. The pedestrian-friendly, residential building is located in proximity to the Caltrain station, resulting in seamless commutes and reduced carbon footprints.
