Marking the southwest corner of the Hive District is Rasa, a highly amenitized apartment building constructed on the site of Oakland’s original Art Murmur. Home to 65 units, its unique point of view is rooted in a reverence for creativity and community, resulting in a finely balanced offering that blends the very best of offbeat imagination and high quality design, finishes and comfort. Rasa is also home to Gallery 459, the Hive District’s leasing center, and two retail spaces intended for local artisans.
Rasa adds to the unique offerings around the Hive with a building full of amenities that will also bring a substantial retail space to this once deserted corner. The building will house one of Oakland’s first pieces of Public Art for Private Development, with a large brass installation nodding to the Uptown area filling the ground floor community space.
Wet weather and a higher than anticipated groundwater level during grading required that the project be redesigned with less excavation, extensive dewatering, and revisions to the subterranean mechanical parking design.
Rasa replaced a surface parking lot and continues Signature’s history of ‘infill’ projects in the area that revitalize underutilized spaces in the Uptown area.
Rasa includes corner retail on the ground floor which, together with Signature’s projects on each of the other four corners at this intersection, will cultivate a complete and vibrant street-level experience.
Creating a vibrant street-level experience.
