As San Francisco continues to see a spike in population, the need for smart, sustainable development continues. SDG repurposed a bank to accommodate new residents and community markets, addressing a variety of needs. Broderick Place is a mixed-use development located at the nexus of several bustling neighborhoods–North of Panhandle Area (NOPA), Lower Haight, Alamo Square and Hayes Valley. With 70 condominium units and 16,000 square feet of commercial space, the development has become a neighborhood staple. Tenants include Peet’s Coffee, Falletti Foods, Nopalito, DeLessio Market & Bakery, and Bank of America.
SDG repurposed a bank to create a micro-community at the intersection of several neighborhoods. Local shops and new homes attract a mix of locals and visitors. The architecture complements the charming style of the bordering communities and coheres a distinctive sense of place.
SDG teamed up with a retail developer to work through the challenging, multi-year entitlement process for Broderick Place. During the approval process we worked with numerous neighborhood associations to create a development which would fit within the existing community fabric, and add value to those with a stake in the area. Construction was challenging due to its location between two heavy commuter streets–Oak and Fell. Our construction expertise enabled us to build within tight parameters at a busy intersection, ultimately creating a successful development.

Broderick Place looks as though it could have been open for fifty years–it just fits within its surroundings. Frequently referenced as a focal point of the neighborhood, Broderick Place has become a central gathering place in the area. With tenants like Peet’s Coffee, Nopalito, and Falletti Foods, Broderick Place is a one-stop shop for visitors and a convenient option for residents living above the commercial floor. The people of San Francisco wanted a development that would enhance community and look great–they got both.
